(EDIT2: Posting can now begin. My apologies for the many posts, and perhaps the waiting. Updates and tweaks will be as needed.)

You arrive on unfamiliar territory as one of six characters (Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, or Toad), and you may or may not know where to go next. This handy "Mini-guide" should help you track down a certain badge, or to snag some info about a particular place. Let's begin, shall we? (For statistics info, refer to jdaster's SMBO guide. If you wish to save time on certain things (It IS a long list), there are certain links provided to give you an idea on what to prepare yourself with.

NOTE: The guide is intended for novices and veterans alike, but for old-time players, this shouldn't concern you too greatly, unless you want to look it over anyway.

Tutorial Mountain:
Enemies: Shrooblet
Basic info: It's just a starting mountain, and that's it. Currently the only snowy area, and has a few Mushrooms and coins to help you on your journey. Time to go down.

Mushroom Zone (Grasslands, Fields, Plains, and Road, going in clockwise order) and Mushroom Town:
Enemies: Goomba, Koopa Troopa (Green and Red varieties), Lakitu, Koopa Troopa w/ Shades, Red Gnarantula, and Borp.
Basic info: One screen south of your new position ("Screen" meaning map section), there should be a ? mark block. This used to be Hit the Control key to receive a prize, but now, you must press the Delete key (Sometimes abbr. Del or Del/suppr. , the latter is in French, I believe) to retrieve the item. (Keep this in mind, it'll be handy). Proceed west (Left) of here to enter Mushroom Town. From here, you may go in other directions. Be aware, the Red Koopa Troopa is aggressive! To stop the aggression from enemies, simply be 4+ levels above them. (Note, enemies without a level tag will always be aggressive. with some exceptions.) Currently, the minimum level is 36 (Thirty-six) for this to work in full. Go to the plains for one of the necessary badges, and to the fields for the other (You'll need both). The Plains and Fields are to the West and South of Mushroom Town, respectively.

Shop Info: Here's the first shop in the game, requiring absolutely nothing. Of course, you need some coins, the currency in the game. Should you happen to find some, Dim Star Pieces are strewn about, so make sure you collect those, as you'll need them for badges (In most cases). There's little noticeably different items here, with the exceptions going to Wario's weapons, staying ahead of other characters by 1 Attack point (Usually with a drawback), and Wario's slingshot weapon, which takes some form of ammo, but can safely pick off the enemy if you use a shielding player. Yoshi and Toad's armor also gives a decent graphical update here.

In mushroom road (Recommended level 7, for the Red Koopas wandering around.), there's a mini-game house called "Steal the Shroom", which is essentially CTF. Here, aside from the tokens to play with, they'll only take mini-game tokens, but the prizes are normally worth your time.

...

Koopa Islands and Koopa Island Village
Enemies: Piranha Plant, Drillbit Crab
Boss: Green Coconutter (Holds the Ability Badge, Spin)
Requirement: Kill enough Lakitu's in the map just south of a blue pipe, serving as the first entrance. The second entrance requires the Spin Badge.

Koopa Islands is, as expected, a tropical archipagelo. Before you can go to the Coconutter himself, you must accomplish a favor (Some of you can treat them as "Quests", although it's properly "Favors") to get a toy back. This is required, or you cannot proceed to get the Spin badge, and are basically stuck there. Get past the Piranha Plants, give the Toad the toy, then you're able to proceed.

(Continued from Koopa Islands and Koopa Island Village)

Fight your way through, then there will be a Salestoad. Unfortunately, you'll need to accomplish a favor again, this time backtracking all the way to Mushroom Town. (Hint: After entering town from the Plains, go as if you're heading to the Grasslands/Road crossroad, but turn up before that. That will also serve as a hospital for you.) This is optional, but recommended, as he carries "tier 3 weapons". (NOTE for Mario and Luigi players: I forgot to mention the Hammers look identical. Note that Mario reserves the top slot, and Luigi gets the one underneath him, similar to the character order I described earlier.) Past him is the Green Coconutter. (If you're ill-prepared, there's a Heal block next to you, though like in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door, this costs money, moreso based on your level.) There's a rather large safe zone, handy for strategy discussions while in the room. Kill him enough times for one of the keys to a later area:

Ability Badge: Spin
Utilization: Face a rock that's normally unreachable (Marked with a green icon matching the badge), and press the End (End/fin) key. Think of it as a grappling hook. All Ability Badges are special.

That's just the first piece of the key. But, before you head to the next, why not take take a look behind some trees in Mushroom Plains (Before the bomb-dropping Lakitu area), to the north-west? That way heads to the village.

Shop info: As stated earlier, you need to accomplish a favor from the Salestoad. Koopa Island village houses the "Tier 1 hats", changing all the characters headwear, graphically or a simple re-color. There's also some items here exclusive to the village, so stock up on some, then head on out. Or, if you're interested in playing around, a new mini-game, Whack-a-monty, is here. Working similar to "Whack-a-mole" (Also a reference, hence why it's "Monty Mole".), players must hit the monty moles in the holes. Beware the gray-glasses fakes: They take a point from you. 80 points nets you the experience + badge, handy for training faster. Note that this is a special badge, so you need to un-equip it when needed, then remember to re-equip it. You also need the Whack-a-monty tokens to buy it.

(EDIT: fixed the direction so it's not misleading, and got rid of the ellipses.)

(EDIT2: Forgot about the Whack-a-monty mini-game, this was added in now.)

Dry Bones Desert and Kinopio Village:

Enemies: Pokey, Dry Bones, Bob-Omb
Boss: Tutankoopa (Holds the Kuribo's Shoe)
Requirements: No badge is needed to get in here, but the ability to find a needed item under the background, and the ability to solve a maze, is necessary.
References: Much of the shop equipment is from lesser-known, sometimes underrated, games. The ability badge, Kuribo's Shoe, translated to English, is Goomba, and Kinopio means Mushroom, which is what Toad's kind is. Both names are Japanese originally, although the Kuribo's Shoe was in the English version of "Super Mario Bros. 3" and "Bowser's Inside Story".

This is almost inhospitable to people who cannot stand the heat. In fact, the enemies here aren't re-assuring either. There is a mini-puzzle in here, which must be solved to fight Tutankoopa for the Kuribo's Shoe, or you cannot get past the brambles you may have found if you kept going west. (Hint, if you find them, go back a screen, then head North.)

When you find the note, it'll all be after the note. (The note is with a Golden Cannon). Accomplish the tasks, then head north-east to find the Golden Bullet Bill, which is needed for the Cannon. (Remember that spot if you fail against Tutankoopa, he's harder than the Green Coconutter. The puzzle re-completion is not necessary, though handy if you forget where the bullet is.)

Kuribo's Shoe:
Utilization: Simply equip it. You should now get across the brambles. Later, there's more spiky paths, remember to bring the shoe. Kinopio village is past the first set of brambles you found in the desert.

Following the guide to the letter, you should now have both pieces of the "puzzle". (If not, read the Koopa Island guide for the other.) You will now be able to access the next area, Flower Hills!

Shop info: Before heading off, pay Kinopio village a visit. The new shop contains your new "Tier 4 weapons", and the first set to distinguish which is which in terms of Mario and Luigi. Several refernces are also in here, and "Teir 3 Armor", in addition to this.) 3 favors will also reward you handsomely. One of these requires you to get a package, which rewards you with the ability to purchase Super Shrooms.

(EDIT: Explained one of the optional favors for people who are confused about why they can't buy Super shrooms.)

Flower Hills
Enemies: Spiny, Paratroopa (Yellow-shell variety), Shy Guy
Boss: Runaway Chain Chomp (Holds the ability Badge, Drill. He also has aggressive Shy Guys w/o a level tag in addition to this to make the fight tougher.)
Requirements: You must have the Kuribo's Shoe and the ability to spin. In reverse order, use these badges to access the area.

A more lush environment, with some dangerous foes. (People with a keen eye will note the Dry Bones Desert and Koopa Islands had similar-leveled enemies.) People do not like Flower Hills too much due to how confusing it can be, but there is a requirement to get to the Chain chomp: Find a Toad who will sell you an Orange Bomb. This costs 50 Dim Star Pieces, so I hope you have some reserved. If not, unwanted badges can sell for these, and nearby Lakitu's also drop their fair share, as do most enemies. Once you have it, you will need it for 2 spots. Don't worry about coughing up an extra 50: Unlike the others, this one lasts forever, so you can keep blowing up the walls in Flower Hills. While it's inconvenient that there's no heal block next to the boss this time, there IS a bank here, so store what you don't need, take out what you do, and prepare yourself.

This is the first boss that has "Minions" in the room, which serve as Guardians. Be careful with the Runaway Chain chomp, he hits high. Defeat him enough times to snag the badge, then, most likely, get out of there fast! One more thing: You didn't store the Orange Bob-Omb before he fight, did you?

Ability Badge: Drill
Utilization: Similar to the Spin Badge, equip it and use the End key. A small tutorial is off to the side, where the Toad notifies you of the Runaway Chain Chomp being north (North-west, actually, as you have to go back a screen first.) Stand on the drill pad, activate the badge, and you'll be across an unreachable spot. Take it with you, along with the previous badges, to the Mushroom Kingdom itself! Note that this will not be an easy trip either.

Shop info: At the beginning of the area, a Toad asks for a Shroom Cake. Note that house you passed earlier, as it's the Chef's house, and is used, in turn, to fill the recipe book. You'll need the obvious here, however, you need to kill the Paratroopa for the necessary Cake Mix, a staple in any sweet recipe. Once baked, give it to the Toad, and he'll allow you to purchase "Tier 1 Legwear", currently the ONLY shop selling for that particular slot. Only Yoshi and Toad have actual legwear, the Mario bros. and Wario Bros. have footwear.

...

Mushroom Sewers
Enemies: Gloomba, Underground enemies (Koopa Troopa and Bob-Omb species)
Requirements: Nothing, but this serves as not only shortcuts to two places, but the only path to the Mushroom Kingdom. That's why I left it out till now. Remember to bring the 3 badges, you will need all of them.

A rather dark, depressing place, but the only way to get to the Mushroom Kingdom. Use some logical reasoning for some bonus stuff.

Shop info: A card shop is her, but the owner wants nothing to do with you until you do a favor for another Toad, which requires getting a package (You need to be able to kill the Underground Koopa Troopa, in turn.) The card shop is now open. Cards are somewhat rare, but for every few cards you get, you'll be rewarded quite well. There is a second shop here, as well, but only those that can walk into walls and have a treasure-like coin can access this.

Mushroom Kingdom and Path
Enemies: Koopa Troopa (Blue shell, and blue-shelled para varieties), Hammer Bros.
Boss: Kamek (Holds the Ability Badge, Hammer Barrage. Minions are Blue-shelled Paratroopas and Pipe-dwelling Lakitus.)
Requirements: You need the three badges from before to fight Kamek, and the power to defeat Pipe-dwelling Lakitus, which serve as the "doors" of the area. Obviously, they give no exp. You no longer need the Orange Bob-Omb, but bank it in case you have further business in Flower Hills for later.

The Mushroom Kingdom already looks in trouble, thanks to the presence of some enemies. Pipe-dwelling Lakitu's do not let you pass, so gun them down. (If you lack a ranged weapon, some Maple Syrups and specials can eliminate them with little, as well. If all else fails, you can melee them, but they hit quite hard for the ill-prepared, and the respawn book is at the beginning.) The jumping feature is used here a bit more than the other areas. A maze, some beach-combing, and a few enemies lying there unconscious are really all the thinking you need to fight Kamek.

Kamek's has two sets of minions here. The Blue Paratroopas behave like any other minions, however, Pipe-dwelling Lakitu's can catch you off-guard here, as well. Kamek does NOT shoot magic, the reason being it could be too difficult otherwise.

Ability Badge: Hammer Barrage
Utilization: Working like Drill, equip it and hit End on the appropriate pad. It lodges you across the brick line, allowing you to proceed into the Kingdom.

Shop info: There's shops-a-plenty here, and the Mushroom Kingdom itself is 9 maps big. Directly west after the gate is the item shop, which currently holds the only Ultra Shrooms in existance, as does the Royal Jelly. North of this shop is the hospital, and a shortcut back to the start of the path. Directly east is a badge shop. Unfortunately, they only deal in the shinier Star Pieces. Conveniently, if you picked up 10 Dim versions, there's a Goomba who'll gladly give you a Star piece for them. A new mini-game, Dodgebill, is present here, working like the Dodgeball sport, only with bullets. This is the first sign of Critical and Block direct modifiers, as well, in shops, the first of these a drop in Flower Hills, but to get it, you need the mini-game Tokens. Finally, north of the Star piece badge shop is the equipment shop, housing "Tier 4 Armor" and "Tier 2 headwear".

Shy Guy Caves (Newest as of this guide version)
Enemies: Fishing Lakitu, Underground enemies (Spiny and Shy guy species)
Boss: General Shy Guy (Holds the Ability Badge, Jugem's Cloud. His minions are Elite Shy Guys.)
Requirements: All you really need is Hammer Barrage for this one, although for FP-heavy users, bring the Kuribo's shoe, as well, if you want.
References: Jugem is Lakitu in Japan, the third name to be in Japanese translation. While Lakitu may be called Jugem officially, it is normally spelled "Jugemu". A speculation is that the Elite Shy Guys might be the regular Shy Guys from the Runaway Chain Chomp fight, who re-trained themselves for revenge. And while pure coincidence, General Shy Guy's sprite is the Medi guy sprite, who happens to be writing the guide. Happy reading! Wink

Hope your Delete key isn't broken, as it's used heavily here. After the first brick line is a jump on a cliff, for example.

After hitting the respawn book, go west up until you get to the bridge, then jump on the bridge. Re-equip your Hammer Barrage one more time for the next room, which tests your logic a bit.

Here are three types of mini-bob-ombs: Strong, Very Strong, and Incredibly Powerful. Only take the strong one, then figure out which wall it blows up. A heal block later, head west and... OH, C'MON!

I'm kidding, General Shy Guy is in here, but it's a difficult fight. The luring method is difficult to manage here, and the NPC barrier placement is just before the door. For this reason, General Shy guy himself "Prefers to command his army". But, you still need to kill him, not his minions. If anyone has made it to this point, ask them to wait in the room, but don't attack any of the minions, then run out and attack the General.

Ability Badge: Jugem's Cloud
Utilization: Working slightly different here, equipping it and pressing End results in a portable cloud. If no other method of crossing gaps is available, use this, then walk into the cloud, and you'll possibly be transported to the other side, meaning it doesn't work everywhere.

...

After acquiring Jugem's/Lakitu's Cloud, and heading north to use it, the following sign appears:

"This area leads to the...
The sign ends here."

It's a new area, but it's not available as of now, and is unnamed.

Shop Info: The Salestoad returns! Only this time, no tedious back-tracking. His package has now been "Stolen" from a green plant. When you enter a room with the only option to jump down, there should be a mushroom bunch that's slightly greener than it's blue cousins. Hit control to get the package. Return it, and he'll open up his shop again, this time with "Tier 5 weapons". (The hammers were re-forged in this one.) This, currently, is the only shop with 2 ranged weapons, but only Toad's ammo is necessary to purchase; Waluigi players can get free ammo here, similar to how Wario can in Flower Hills with his Bob-omb shooter. A hint is a variant of an enemy who loves to "catch people off-guard by luring them with a 1-up".

It's nice, but you should copy/paste on the first post, delete the one you just copied off of, and merge the rest in this way so the entire thing is one post.

As I said before, Jugem's Cloud could easily have been named as such because of the SMB3 item, not just because of his Japanese name.  Also, you might want to note that Piranha Fire drops in much bigger quantities and much more often than Bob-ombs.

EDIT: "Kinoko" means mushroom, whereas "Kinopio" is Toad's name, and is a play on words of some sort.
