An antivirus called AVG 2011 has a special link scanner option that scans stuff before you actually download them.

problem is, that a lot of times when someone downloads something they already have a virus, it just doesn't show up on the antivirus program you have, then, for some reason, it shows up right when you decide to download something, thus, leading to the thoughts that whatever you downloaded has a virus. D: The same thing happened with my dad, but he traced the virus and found out where it originally came from. My suggestion is to use a program that either traces where the virus came from, or it can easily find and/or delete viruses.

If he has Norton then of course it is dangerous because Norton thinks that everything good he dowloands is a virus but AVG gives the results properly.

Then tell him to get AVG 2011 and his father will no longer need to worry about viruses.

His father can't understand that sooner or later Norton will completely bust his computer with viruses? -_-
I also used to have Norton but I had to get rid of it.

Microsoft Security Essentials is the best anti-virus you can get because it's made by Microsoft, the people who made your computer operating system, takes up very little processing power, provides top-notch protection, and is 100% free.

One way you could prove that SMBO isn't a virus is to download an award-winning malware removal program called MalwareBytes. The trial for it is free forever, but that's all you need because it offers the same amount of protection as the full version, except it doesn't have real-time protection and some other tools. I'd say to scan SMBO with MalwareBytes, and if it doesn't pick anything up, then that will prove that SMBO is virus-free.

Right-click on the file and select "Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware."
