So I've noticed lately that the server's been down alot, and there's no people on the forum. The server has fallen into disarray, and the forums are devoid of life. In short, SMBO has pretty much died.

I mean, I know that Kimimaru and Hydrakiller said that there will be no more updates for SMBO, but I also know that they wouldn't want their project to just roll over and give up like that either. Something must be done.

Something along the lines of new content, or player-driven events, or something. Anything to keep people coming back and get this place back to the thriving community it used to be.

Now I know that Kimimaru and Hydrakiller may be busy lately, but surely they can set aside some time to check on things here, update the game, maybe plan some events or something.

In short, we can't let the game or the community die. So what do you propose we do?

Hi Razz,

This post means a lot to us! I'm very glad that you enjoyed SMBO and want it to be the thriving community it once was. I saw this post a few days ago but forgot to reply, so I apologize for the late response.

Kimimaru and I still do keep an eye on the forums. We check them every couple of days and also make sure that the server is still running. The computer running our server is now about 6 years old, so as you can imagine it is starting to experience some minor issues. I pushed out an update a few days ago so that you can connect to the game. The IP address of the server has changed again. Sorry about that!

I would gladly support any in-game events, but I wouldn't be able to organize them myself. Kimimaru and I are now working full-time, so that limits the time we can spend on SMBO. However, we will try our best to support anything you guys organize!

In-game events may be the best way to get more people onto SMBO. We can create new items for you, but creating other types of new content would be more challenging for us, as it is more time-consuming.

First hurdle to get over is the fact that only somewhere around 3 people, including staff members, actually checks the forum every day on average. We'd need more advertisement and we'd need to spread the word around.

On a side note, a lot of other similar-ish mario MMOs are currently being worked on and are down so it might be a good idea to try and get people here now.

That green is painful to read.

The way I see it at this point is that maybe it's time to get some new people on-board the development team.

^I don't think this is an option. After talking with Kimi before they would prefer that the project is their own work and as such it holds lots of memories for them.

While SMBO was still being actively developed, we mentioned that we were not interested in bringing anyone else onto the development team. While SMBO holds a lot of sentimental value to me and Kimi, we also made this decision because we felt the general feel of SMBO would not be quite the same if someone else were to take it on. I'm sure there are plenty of great level designers out there, but each one has his/her own style, and not every one of them has the depth of knowledge about the Mario universe that Kimi and I have. The latter point is very important, because just about all of SMBO's concepts were inspired in some way by a concept in an official Mario game.

I've always wanted to help with SMBO. For a while, I was thinking about asking to be apart of the Dev team. But I soon realized after playing SMBO for a while that our visions are very different. And our feels are very different. And if I were to help with SMBO, I wouldn't be satisfied with my contributions because it would differ too greatly from SMBO itself. So I started my own project that carries bits and pieces of what I liked about SMBO while maintaining my own vision.

Yeah, I was doing a partner short story in school with somebody who just writes way, way better than me. She wrote the first paragraph of the story and I was just at a loss because if I wrote my paragraph it would completely ruin the story because of just how vastly different not only the skill level but just the style of writing is.
