This is just one little glitch: In the BeanBean Kingdom sometimes people's sprites glitch out. Here are 2 examples:
1. toadrei2's sprite was originally a toad, but now it's a baby mario
2. When I was playing on one of my 2 yoshis, the sprite was a Wario, and when I relogged it went back to a yoshi
Another thing is that on my 2nd yoshi, I got 3 of the 10 bean fruits, the game crashed, and now I can't get them anymore, even after I ran the patcher.

Again, the bean fruit thing wouldn't be remedied by a patch; because the flags for bean fruits, ? blocks, favors, etc. are checked separately on your and the client's side, it has to be handled on a case-by-case basis.
The sprite glitch sounds strange, though.
