862  Super Mario Bros. Online / Rules / Super Mario Bros. Online Rules on: August 16, 2009, 11:52:28 am
These are the rules for Super Mario Bros. Online. Breaking any of these rules will result in either a warning, kick, mute, or ban depending on which rule was broken.

Each rule broken will result in either a warning, kick, or temporary mute, but a more serious rule broken might result in an automatic temporary ban or a permanent mute. Once you receive 3 warnings, you will be temporarily muted, and once you receive 3 kicks, you will be temporarily banned for a week. When you receive a warning, you will be notified in-game. It is advised that you read the reason you were given this warning so you will know why you were warned. Please don't keep breaking the rules, otherwise you will be permanently banned.

Rules with a * before them indicate a rule with no leniency. This means that such actions will have a zero tolerance policy. Rules without a * are still rules, but depending on the situation, may be ignored.

RULES:
1. No swearing of any sort.
2. *Do not make any player feel uncomfortable or unwelcome to Super Mario Bros. Online.
3. *Do not insult any other player. Constructive criticism is welcome, though.
4. *Do not type or spell out anything inappropriate. This game is for people of all ages.
5. *Do not abuse in-game glitches.
6. *Do not judge players solely on their in-game level. Calling new players "noobs" or anything of the sort shows that you do not wish to have them in the game. It also breaks rule #2. Instead of wasting time calling them "noobs," try to help them out instead. Let's be real; everyone was a noob at some point.
7. *Do not type out links to anything illegal. This includes ROMs and copyrighted material.
8. *Do not hack or attempt to hack in any way.
9. Do not overuse caps lock. We understand that you may be excited or frustrated about something, but please try to control yourself.
10. Do not spam in any way. This includes asking the same question many times and typing long lines of random letters for no reason.
11. Please don't pressure the Developers to finish creating something. This may cause them to rush their work, leading to lower quality material in the game. This may also increase the risk of bugs and glitches.
12. If a staff member is not responding to your questions, then he/she is probably busy working. Please do not keep asking the staff member the same question many times because he/she needs to concentrate on his/her work. The staff member will answer your question when he/she has time.
13. *Do not advertise other Mario online RPGs at all. Doing so will result in an immediate one week ban. This rule was added because recently many people have been using SMBO as a method of advertising. Note that you may discuss them, but I may consider it advertising if you actively bring them up.
14. Act appropriately and in a civilized manner.

This is not a rule, but have fun! We want you to enjoy your experience with Super Mario Bros. Online.

Please think before you act. You might break a rule without meaning to. I don't see a reason to break a rule in a game you want to play.

**The Super Mario Bros. Online staff have the right to kick/ban any player breaking these rules.**

The rules can be changed at any given time. Feel free to question any of the rules listed above. Only serious concerns regarding the rules will be considered. You're also free to question any moderator/administrator's actions.
863  Forum Games / Roleplaying / RPG Simulator on: August 16, 2009, 12:08:26 am
This is an RPG simulator. In this free-for-all game, each person has 100 HP, 1 Attack, 1 Defense, 5 Mushrooms, and a set number of actions. After you defeat someone, whether you steal the kill or not, you get a chance to level up. When you level up, you can either increase your HP by 5, increase your Attack by 1, or increase your Defense by 1. Mushrooms heal 10 HP. If you die, you will be resurrected with 5 Mushrooms, your current Attack and Defense stats, and 100% HP. Please post all of your stats next to your name. You can only attack once per post, and you cannot double post. An example will be posted below. It's a free-for-all, so please feel free to attack whoever you want! More actions will be added later. If you want to create your own action, you will need at least 5 other people to confirm it. Please don't suggest any extremely overpowered actions.

Actions (Attack):
-Jump (2 damage) - +3 damage on the 6th use.
-Punch (3 damage) - Goes through the defense of a person on the 5th use.
-Kick (4 damage)

Actions (Defend):
-Guard (+1 defense until next turn)

Example:

Kimimaru (Level 1) - 100 HP - 1 Attack - 1 Defense
-Kimimaru punches hydrakiller4000!
-hydrakiller4000 loses 2 HP!
-Kimimaru gains one punch counter!
 hydrakiller4000's stats - 98 HP - 1 Attack - 1 Defense

Have fun!

EDIT (Penguin4478):
Due to recent sights at the death of shromerson, I'm suggesting that you shouldn't be allowed to chain a kill between 2-4 people like that. Therefore, I'm proposing, and this is active until changed by another mod, that you can only post an attack every 15 minutes. It's just not exactly fair to totally maul someone between 3 people.

865  Rules / Rules / Forum Rules on: August 15, 2009, 11:07:39 pm
These are the rules for the Super Mario Bros. Online forums. Please abide by all of the rules. Each rule broken will result in a warning, but a more serious rule broken might result in an automatic temporary ban. Once you receive 3 warnings, you will be temporarily banned for a week. When you receive a warning, you will be sent a personal message on the forums. It is advised that you read and keep the message, so you won't be misinformed of how many warnings you have.

2. *Do not insult other members. You are free to constructively criticize their actions, though, if it's appropriate.
3. *Do not make any other members feel unwelcome or uncomfortable in any way.
4. *No flaming, spamming, trolling, or stealing someone else's topic. Debates are fine as long as they don't get out of control.
5. *Do not post any inappropriate content. The forums are intended for people of all ages.
6. *Do not post any illegal content. This includes ROMs, torrents, or copyrighted material. Links to such content are also forbidden.
7. Post in the appropriate board and topic.
8. Stay on topic.
9. Do not overuse caps lock, big text, or different colored text.
10. *Do not mention or discuss other Mario online RPGs at all. This rule was added because recently many people have been using SMBO as a method of advertising.
11. Act appropriately and in a civilized manner.

Notes on bumping topics:

-Only bump a topic if you feel it is necessary. Try to add something meaningful to the topic if you decide to bump it.
-If you don't have anything important to contribute to a topic, please don't bump it.

A topic that is inappropriate or vulgar will be locked and possibly removed.

**The Super Mario Bros. Online staff have the right to ban any player breaking these rules.**

867  Forum Games / Forum Games / Rules for this board on: August 15, 2009, 08:59:55 pm
Here are the rules for the Forum Games board. Please note that the rest of the forum rules still apply.

RULES:

1. No stealing anyone else's forum game. If you have permission from the original creator, you can recreate the forum game if it's already dead. If the original creator no longer goes on the forums, you can recreate his/her forum game with permission from an administrator or moderator.
2. Keep forum games appropriate.
3. Do not bump old forum games. Forum games are officially dead when no one posts on them for at least 2 months. Read rule #1 if you liked a dead forum game and want to recreate it.

That's about it. Feel free to question any of these rules. Only serious posts will be considered.
868  Super Mario Bros. Online / Game Help / Bugs and Errors List on: August 15, 2009, 07:58:29 pm
Here is a list of all of the known bugs and errors in Super Mario Bros. Online. Note that this comes packaged in the Super Mario Bros. Online folder:

Key Terms:
----------
1) system directory: the system32 folder
How to get to the system directory: Start (or Windows Button) --> My Computer--> C: Drive (or another main drive) --> WINDOWS folder --> system32 folder

2) registering files: storing files in the Windows registry so that they can be available and useable by the computer
How to register a file (for .dll and .ocx files): Start --> Run... --> Type in: regsvr32 filename.extension
Ex: Someone wants to register a file called VBMP.ocx. He/she would type this: regsvr32 VBMP.ocx
Remember to put the file in the system directory before registering it.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 (x86 or 64-bit) users
-----------------------------------------------------
Registering files needs to be done in a different way. Instead of putting your .dll or .ocx files in the Windows/System32 folder, put them
in the Windows/Syswow64 folder. Then, follow these steps to register them:

1. Open up the command prompt. To do this, click on the Windows Button, type "cmd" in the Search Bar, and hit Enter. The command window should pop up.
2. In the command window, type in the following:
3. cd c:\windows\syswow64 (Replace the "c" with the letter of your main drive. Chances are it will be the C: drive.)
4. Now press Enter. Then, type in the following:
5. regsvr32 filename.extension
6. Replace "filename" with the name of the file (ex: dx7vb) and "extension" with the file extension (ex: dll)
7. Now press Enter and click OK on the window that comes up saying dllregserver succeeded.
8. Repeat step 6 as many times as needed.
9. Now type in the following:
10. exit
11. Now press Enter, and you're done!

Error: Cannot connect because the server is offline
---------------------------------------------------
-Click on the "IPCONFIG" box on the Main Menu
-Make sure the value for the Server IP is: 72.68.230.63
-Make sure the value for the Server Port is: 4000
-Click "Confirm" at the bottom
-If it still says that the server is offline, then the server really is offline
