Somebody recently mailed me pics. The more I have then the more I have to move. I have no where to store pics in the hopes I have grandkids to leave them to. That's why I've been scanning what I already had & posting them online. I've
finally gotten my 'puter cleared off & it's going to stay this way.
Virtually somebody recently offered to email me pics & a couple of people love to text me pics. It's not that I don't want to see your pics, videos, docs, etc. It's that I don't want to save them on hard drives or devices or move them. I simply can't allow other people's fun to screw up my hard drive or become my responsibility to move about the net...especially when we have all these free sites to use.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gs& to see if your relatives have already been added. If they have been you can join for free & request management of them. Whether you get management or not you can post pics or flowers/notes & you can also have virtual cemeteries & add people to them.
The best thing about Find A Grave is thanks to volunteers you could get pics of your peoples headstones whether you live locally or not. You click on the button "request a photo". And again...you don't have to be the manager of a memorial to do this. You just have to be a member.
On freebies you can upload 5 pics. If one slot's hogged up by a pic of the cemetery gate you can request the manager remove it unless you're the manager...then you can remove it. Since it is Find A Grave be sure to leave a slot for a pic of the headstone. Also please don't upload images of docs or pics of family unless the deceased is in the pic too. To upload more pics & get the ads removed you can pay a small one time fee to sponsor the memorial. You also don't have to be the manager to do this. If you can afford it please do as it helps keep the site going.
If you don't know where your people were buried & can't find their memorials yet have pics of them to share...you can upload them here til we run out of room then we have 2 Facebook groups. You can also create a free photobucket account & upload them there. That's where I put most of the ones I scanned out of several photo albums. You can post a link to your overall album on our links page. They'll also give you various codes so you could embed a slideshow of your pics on a site or post an individual pic within a post like this one.
For living people if I post their pics it's at photobucket with private albums you need passwords to get into. I've also made one group private enough to upload living people to. Otherwise I don't do it. If people want to create their own profiles they're welcome to. Let them decide what to upload & which friends see what.
If we're talking about videos there's youtube. Again you'll get links that you can then use here or at Facebook. You may also be able to upload them to Facebook...either to your profile or to our group. I believe you can upload them straight from your cell phone as well...pics or videos.
For everything else...word docs, pdf files, gedcom files, etc...there's this:
http://www.box.net/widget/wordpress. You have to upload them someplace to have a link to share where people can download them. If you don't want to use a blog with a widget like I've done here:
http://thelaforces.wordpress.com, you'll still get a free account & be able to upload files & get a link to them that you can post so others can download them.
As far as our 2 Facebook groups...I recently went to check up on ours & realized they're changing platforms. They threw out discussions for group chat. Since we have this discussion forum...no biggie. Busy groups were allowed to upgrade to the new platform & supposedly retain their members. Dead groups were scheduled to be archived...meaning at the very least we'd lose all our members. Ours were scheduled to be archived. I was told if you used them the link to upgrade should appear yet I did it & it didn't happen. I decided since we were losing members anyway I'd rather not lose pics too. So I've created new groups using the new platform, moved everything & deleted the old groups.
You can post something on the wall, post a link, post a video or post a question (like a poll). You can also chat with the whole group at once, create a doc or create an event. But you can also do some of these things right here...post a link, post a link to a video uploaded at youtube, post a poll & create an event. So try not to forget about this place.
